Why Templars Square and why now?
Templars Square is the main community shopping centre for Cowley, and the south and east Oxford areas, and is home to local and national retailers, community facilities and a college. It is now almost 60 years old and was originally built for a different era. Over the years, people’s shopping habits have changed and so have the needs of the local community.
The previous owners, New River, secured planning permission for its partial redevelopment last year. As new owners we want to take a look with fresh eyes and use community input to enable us to progress ideas into a scheme that can be successfully delivered.
Town centres and the way we use them have been rapidly changing due to the growth of online shopping and impacts of COVID. We want to create a destination that responds to the needs of local people and maximises the potential of the site for the future.
We want you to join the conversation on the future of Templars Square and how we can create a modern destination which responds to the needs of the community, as well as reflecting the changes needed for Town Centre sites such as Templars Square.
